UPDATE! A New Commenting System Has Arrived

When I started the Celtics Chronicle, I was excited to build a community of Celtics fans. Finding ways to interact, build relationships and get to know everyone has been something that's at the forefront of my push to make this newsletter work – because a site without a community is destined to fail.

My long-time Editor-In-Chief, the venerable Jeff Clark of CelticsBlog, has often said that "Content Is King and Community Is Queen." And if there is anyone who knows about building a successful platform talking about the Celtics, it's him. So I would be foolish to ignore such wise teachings.

For that reason, I spent yesterday and this morning configuring a new comments system on the site. You can still comment directly from the newsletter, too. With the new system, we can all react to comments with emojis, reply in threads and have pinned conversations that we can chime in on.

I've also added better moderation features, although I'm confident they will seldom need to be used.

There is a slight barrier when commenting via the newsletter itself, though. Upon your first time leaving a comment, you will need to log in to the site. It's a simple process: enter your email and then follow the link that is sent. This is a one-off security feature, and is the best Ghost can do, as unlike Substack, there isn't an all-in-one system.

However, the overall feel should be seamless once logged in.

I also want to encourage using the new commenting feature to leave links. If you create content or have read something that adds to or evolves the conversation, please feel free to share. Collaboration beats competition every time, so I would love to see others' work being linked to where possible.

Also, I have begun integrating and will be launching an update system into the Discord channel, so everyone who is present there can see when new comments have been posted. This is a week or so out. The hope is that it will help spur conversation within the threads. So, if you're not in the Discord channel already...Let's change that today!

Finally, it's true that sites that receive more activity in the comments section usually see more reach on search engines over time, as it's a good signal to the Google overlords. And while that isn't a primary concern for me at present, I would be foolish to overlook the benefits that could have for the newsletter/site long-term. I'm sharing this to be fully transparent.

Community is key, but subscribers keep the motivation high and the lights on. So, please know you're supporting me on multiple fronts when you choose to hit the comment button! In fact, why not try it out on this post? Let me know what you're excited for with training camp just over a week out!
